Amazon Prime Changes!

UPDATE:

Heads up Amazon shoppers!  The rumors surrounding Amazon increasing the cost of an Amazon Prime membership are true!  I just received an email this morning notifying me that my Amazon Prime renewal in December would be $99 instead of $79!  That's a $20 increase!  It's not a huge increase at $20 more per year (the rumors had the price at $149 per year!), but if you are not a Prime member yet and have been considering a membership, I would strongly suggest purchasing one now at the lower rate BEFORE 4/17/14 when the rates go up!  I have used my Prime membership SO much that I have more than made my money back in shipping costs alone!  But I also love the other perks!

If the cost of the Prime membership at $79 (just $6.58/month) or the increase to renew at $99 (just $8.25/month) seems too prohibitive for your budget, remember the membership can also be shared!  You can add up to 4 people to your Prime account and split the cost of the membership!  (5 people sharing a $79 membership is just $15.80 per person!)  This will sure come in handy with holiday shopping!

Here are my suggestions:  If your membership is set to expire and will need to be renewed on or before 4/17/14, you will be charged $79.  If the expiration or renewal date is after 4/17/14 you will be charged $99.  To lock in the lower rate, you can do one of these things:

  • Sign up for the FREE 30-Day Trial by 3/17 (if you or somebody in your household qualify) and that will get you in before the increase of $99 goes into effect.  If you like the membership, you can buy a year after your trial period ends for just $79!
  • Purchase a NEW Prime membership ASAP and pay just $79 for this first year.
  • Purchase a GIFT Prime membership and give it to yourself (or somebody else in your household!) and set the delivery date of the gift membership to after your current membership's expiration date.  So, if your membership expires 6/13/14, have the Prime gift membership be delivered on 6/14/14.  Make sure your current Prime membership is not set to auto-renew though!  Go into your account settings and you can cancel the auto-renewal.

Amazon has so many awesome deals!  Deals that are really hard to beat even with coupons and store sales, and especially when the deal is delivered right to your front door!  But paying the pricey shipping fees on those deals or adding more unnecessary items to your cart in order to reach the new $35 purchase minimum for free shipping can make those amazing deals not so amazing in the end!  Well, no more missing out!  You can sign up for a 30-Day FREE Trial of Amazon Prime!  With Amazon Prime you'll be able to...

* Instantly watch over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with titles for everyone
* Borrow books from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library
* Get unlimited FREE 2-day shipping with no minimum order size

And after your FREE Trial is up, the annual membership is just $79 per year!  (Don't worry, you can go in to your account at any time and disable the auto-renewal option!) I have had Amazon Prime for over 2 years now, and feel I have more than made my money back just in shipping charges alone!  Okay, that and the Instant Video Streaming of Downton Abbey!  LOVE my Amazon Prime!

And your paid Prime membership gives you all the benefits of the Amazon Mom program!

Heads up students (or those with a valid .edu email address)!   Sign up now and get 6 months of Amazon Prime (a $39 value) FREE with Amazon Student!
