nSPIRED Natural Foods, Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Certain Retail Lots Of Arrowhead Mills® Peanut Butters, Maranatha® Almond Butters And Peanut Butters And Specific Private Label Nut Butters Because Of Possible Health Risk

With many schools now going "peanut free", peanut butter alternatives ("nut butters") are becoming increasingly popular!  There is an important food safety recall out this week on many brands and varieties of peanut butters and almond butters as there is a potential risk of salmonella contamination!

Products affected include Arrowhead Mills peanut butters, MaraNatha almond butters and peanut butters, and private label nut butters from Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Kroger and Safeway. For a full list of recalled varieties and UPC codes go HERE.

This is a voluntary recall in conjunction with the FDA.  Although only four instances of illness have been detected and possibly linked to the contaminated products, salmonella can be a serious health risk for many, especially among the young, elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of poisoning include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Consumers with recalled products are being asked to stop use of the product immediately, jot down the UPC code, and throw the product away.  nSpired Natural Foods will issue either a replacement or a refund and can be reached by calling this number: (800) 937-7008 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST.
