Annual Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival!

The 20th Annual Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival is always tons of fun!  Admission is FREE, but parking will run ya $5!  This event is family-friendly but it does tend to get super crowded.  Go early when the festivities first start or as the event closes.

The Giant Pumpkin Festival is held in Elk Grove Regional Park and the event covers the entire grounds!  So if you have littles that will tire from all the walking, I recommend bringing along a wagon.  That will also come in handy if you plan on purchasing pumpkins! The grass is not very stroller friendly and the sidewalks will fill with crowds, so navigating will be difficult and require patience.

The weather is always way hot.  If you plan on dressing the kiddos in their costumes, you may want to bring a change of clothes or dress lightly in partial costume.

There is not a real pumpkin "patch" at this event, more like a pumpkin "yard" with pumpkins displayed on hay bales and such.  Tip:  Buy your pumpkins as you leave so you're not stuck lugging around pumpkins all day!  There are always plenty to choose from!

The Kid's Zone is lots of fun with face painting, carnival games, rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, and that type of thing.  Tickets are $0.50 each and most attractions take 1 - 6 tickets.  There are also plenty of FREE activities for the kiddos.  In years past there have been stations for planting seeds, coloring, some sort of craft, etc.

This festival is not just for the kiddos!  There are lots of things for the grown folk to enjoy too!  Live entertainment, craft vendors, giant pumpkin weigh-off and the always popular pumpkin regatta, recipe contests, pie-eating contest, business vendors, and more.

Food is available for purchase, but it can be pricey and the lines long around lunch and dinner time.  You are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks, so a picnic may be fun! But, the temptation of garlic fries and something on a stick may be too hard to resist!
